The National Writing Project in New Hampshire, in collaboration with the Scholastic Writing Contest, is pleased to offer New Hampshire students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to submit their work for publication and awards. Student work was accepted in the following categories: short story, flash fiction, poetry, personal narratives, critical essays, humor, dramatic script, as well as science fiction, and fantasy. The deadline for this year’s contest is Thursday, January 9th. See our regional page for more information. Before you submit, please read our hints from the judges.

Works are judged blindly against others by students in the same genre and grade range by a panel of judges consisting of writers and writing teachers associated with the writing project. Students can earn gold or silver keys, or have their works cited for honorable mention. We notify all winners by early February. We do not notify students whose works did not win an award. All works awarded a gold key, a silver key or an honorable mention will be published in Middle/High School Voices, an anthology of student writing published annually. Gold key winners will go on to have their work judged at the national level and be eligible for national awards.  We will be holding a virtual awards ceremony. The middle high school voices book is on sale now.
